Abstract

The adequate use of electrical energy in general and in public buildings in particular, is decisive for the economic and environmental sustainability of the country. In this direction, universities have a great social responsibility and can be a driving force for change by implementing energy efficiency measures and contributing to the fight against climate change. Before initiating any energy saving and efficiency measure, it is essential to estimate energy consumption by centers and buildings. This article describes the current situation of electrical energy consumption in the Leonel Rugama Rugama, Elmer Cisneros Moreira and “El Limón” Experimental Station of FAREM-Estelí/UNAN-Managua. The Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and the SPSS and Infostat statistical packages were used for data processing. The study is based on the quantitative research approach, and according to its epistemological approach it is based on the Positivist current. The research is observational and descriptive. An energy diagnosis was carried out taking as reference the period from 2017 to 2021 in relation to consumption in lighting systems, air conditioning and electrical equipment. The main results show that in the year 2017, the Leonel Rugama campus, and in its pavilion 3, is where the greatest amount of energy is consumed in the use of electrical equipment and air conditioning; and in lighting, it is pavilion 6 of the same campus.
