Factors associated with subsequent pregnancy in adolescents
Abstract
The objective of this study was to analyze the factors associated with subsequent pregnancy in adolescents who attended the Adolescent Clinic, Hospital España, July-September 2016. The research was descriptive, correlational, retrospective, cross-sectional, mixed approach, non-probabilistic sample, for convenience, corresponding to 66 adolescents. The instruments were a survey and interview guide for key stakeholders. Most of the adolescents were from the rural area, low educational level, accompanied, housewives, had their first child after the age of 14. The predominant individual factors were: early onset of menarche, active sexual life, and age of first pregnancy. The cause of the first pregnancy was due to not planning and the subsequent pregnancy due to failure of the contraceptive method. Family factors: parental divorce, lack of communication about sexuality and a history of adolescent pregnancy in the family. Socio-cultural factors: economic dependence on their partners, as well a myths. Most mentioned myths were: pregnancy as a status to be an adult, pregnancy is the responsibility of the woman, you have to have the children that God wants, if you take the pill after having sex there is no pregnancy. In conclusion, subsequent pregnancy is multifactorial, however, it is highly preventable when adolescents attend the health unit to attend their first delivery, an ideal time to offer postpartum contraception, recommending greater efforts to promote contraception counseling for adolescents, your partner and the family approach that contributes to its prevention.
