Bioethics as a tool for clinical research
Abstract
There are four primordial criteria in bioethics; beneficence, non-maleficence, justice and autonomy. Arrogance and paternalism conspire against all of them but profoundly against autonomy. The physician’s attitude makes the patient feel that he/she is excluded from the therapeutic process or from the research project. As a consequence, a volume of information is not recorded by the researcher. There is historical evidence that such attitude acts in detriment of the research. We propose to award research
projects to investigators who have shown that their able to empathize with the patient in any environment where there is clinical interaction.
Keywords: paternalism, autonomy, clinical research, bioethics.
