Knowledge about Sexuality in Students of Social and Legal Sciences at UNAN-Managua during 2023

Abstract

Sexual and reproductive health is of great importance and is defined as a process linked to human development, beginning at birth and continuing throughout life. The objective of this study was to assess the level of knowledge of students from the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-Managua) regarding fundamental concepts of sexuality. The methodology highlights that it is a descriptive, cross-sectional, observational study with a quantitative, retrospective approach. The population consisted of 4,417 active students from the first to the fifth year. The sample was made up of 300 students, selected for convenience. Among the main results, it was observed that out of the 300 students surveyed, the level of knowledge about sexuality was 54% (poor), 13% (average), 10% (good), 8% (very good), and only 15% (45 students) had excellent knowledge on the topic. The findings generally indicated a low level of knowledge
about sexuality among the participants, despite the fact that most reported having received sexual education at home and in educational institutions.
