Systematization of the experience of executing the project “Education, promotion and prevention of HIV and COVID-19”, in the residents of the Ciudad Belén and Villa Reconciliación neighborhoods of District VII of Managua

Abstract

This article presents the systematization of the  experience developed in the project ´´Education,  promotion and prevention of HIV and COVID-19´´, in the  residents of the Ciudad Belén and Villa Reconciliation  neighborhoods of District VII of Managua, during  September and October 2021. The project was  implemented by the Center for Health Research and  Studies CIES UNAN Managua, with the collaboration  and advice of the Nicaraguan AIDS commission  CONISIDA and financed by the Joint United Nations  Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), within the framework  of the proposal ´´Strengthening community-based  organizations that work in Responses to HIV in Latin  America and the Caribbean, in the context of the  COVID-19 pandemic´´. Activities were carried out in 2  neighborhoods of District VII, Managua, Nicaragua,  in which prior to their execution, coordination was  established with community leaders of the key  populations of the sectors and people with HIV. Two  facilitators participated in each visit, who implemented  strategies for health promotion and prevention of  COVID-19 and HIV with 10 participating inhabitants  of the community in each meeting. It was possible  to exceed the number of beneficiaries, being a total  of 356 of 240 initially contemplated, among which  are men and women; teens and adults. The didactic  processes included interactive talks, use of visual  materials in flipchart format, broushurs; focused on  active community models such as focus groups and  home meetings, where health education, support  groups and communities of conscious practices were  emphasized. The knowledge of the participants  in each educational intervention was qualitatively  evaluated through comments and reflective points of  view. Promote a constant training project on health  issues for this sector of the population so that they can  be transmitting axes of messages alluding to public  health.
