Abstract

The emotional state of a patient is increasingly relevant in the treatment of chronic diseases such as diabetes. Therefore, it is necessary to have psychological tools that help to improve the acceptance of the disease management treatment and its impact on the quality of life of the patient with diabetes. The care vision must give way to the assessment of the implications of diabetes in the different aspects that make up the quality of life of the person who suffers from it. That is, to treat the variables related to the management of the disease and its associated stressors, which influence both the prognosis and the evolution of diabetes mellitus. In this work a bibliographic search is carried out with the objective of compiling psychological instruments used in the assessment of diabetes, as well as the variables that are normally evaluated, such as perception of control, coping strategies, health-related beliefs, perceived stress, satisfaction, etc., and its therapeutic implications. As the importance of comprehensive care in diabetes care has been contrasted, there is an increasing tendency to develop specific instruments for the psychological evaluation of the patient, despite this, there is still a lack of them in the evaluation of the psychological variables for adaptation to the disease.
