Abstract

Agroecology promotes more resilient, sustainable and fair agricultural systems that respect ecological and social principles to guarantee long-term food security. It is a scientific discipline, as a science, it studies how the different components of the agroecosystem interact. As a set of practices, it seeks sustainable agricultural systems that optimize and stabilize production. As a social movement, it pursues multifunctional roles for agriculture, promotes social justice, nurtures identity and culture, and reinforces the economic viability of rural areas. Farmers have the tools to practice agroecology, they are real guardians of the knowledge and wisdom necessary for this discipline. Therefore, they are the key elements for food production in an agroecological way.
This essay explores the concept of agroecology and how it relates to sustainable fruit production, and its positive influence on fruit production from a holistic and sustainable approach. The environmental and social benefits, as well as the challenges and opportunities presented by this practice, are analyzed. The benefits of agroecology in fruit production are demonstrated. Adopting agroecological approaches in fruit production can not only contribute to mitigating the negative impacts of conventional agriculture on the environment, but can also offer viable and sustainable alternatives for farmers, promoting their autonomy and well-being
